The company has jokingly offered to purchase TikTok in order to prevent a potential ban on the platform in the United States.
.
The looming January 19th deadline for a solution has been nine months in the making, amidst growing unease from US officials regarding ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, and their potential ties to the Chinese government.
In April 2024, U.S. President Joe Biden gave ByteDance a nine-month deadline to divest itself of TikTok or face a prohibition on doing business in the U.S. TikTok has approximately 170 million American users, but officials are worried about the potential security risks if that user data were to fall into the hands of the Chinese government.
.
However, it looks like they aren’t lacking for offers after the American content creator made a cheeky post on X/Twitter saying he was willing to buy the platform to stop a US ban.
The YouTuber, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, said: “Alright, I’ll purchase TikTok so it gets taken off the hit list.”
It remains uncertain what MrBeast’s intentions are, but many X/Twitter users showed a strong emotional response to the offer.
“Please remain at a safe distance,” a person cautioned.
Another person stated, “I would prefer it if it was banned.”
Meantime, someone else said, “I would only eat Feastables (MrBeast’s snack brand) if he did this.”
